Cedarvale Maple Syrup Co

A Trip Down Maple Lane

Saturday wasn’t the loveliest of days when it comes to weather, but nevertheless my sister, my two nephews and I donned our rain boots and jackets and took off on an adventure.  The built in GPS was our saving grace as my sister and I discovered we were both totally clueless as to where we were going.  Cedarvale Maple Syrup Co on Pleasant Valley Road in Syracuse, NY is a pleasant surprise.  One minute we were in a city sort of atmosphere and with one left hand turn we found ourselves driving towards a cabin in the woods with a breathtaking view of the hillside.  The seemingly sleepy cabin proved to be quite the opposite by all the steam that billowed out from the rooftop.

We walked through the door and were immediately greeted with a warm welcome and maple cotton candy for all of us. There were tables lined with free samples of all of the delicious goods they had to offer, and we were overwhelmed by all of our choices. Needless to say my sister and I just about bought out the place, each leaving with Maple Balsamic Dressing, freshly made maple candies, maple cream, maple syrup, thick cut maple peppered bacon, maple cotton candy, and maple pumpkin butter. Everything was delicious!

We took my nephews outside to take a walk on the trail to see how they collect the sap to make their maple syrup. It was really beautiful to see all of the lines of blue tubing from tree to tree that carried the sap down the hill into the cabin to be boiled into syrup. The kids were fascinated and asked questions wanting to learn more. We took them down into the boiling room where they could see the fire going in the wood stove, and the sap boiling vigorously away in order for the water to evaporate out. It was a great experience for all of us, and we will be able to continue enjoying and remembering that time together as we devour all of our maple goodies until it is time to return to Cedarvale Maple Syrup Co to replenish our maple stash!
